According to the article, it would seem that a certain number of selected students are guaranteed 8 take-home meals per week. Considering that this program is based upon prepared food that was supposed to be consumed but wasn’t, how can this 15 Years of Supernatural thank you for the memories shirt of meals be guaranteed? Will this lead to purposefully over the preparation of food? Just wondering and considering some unintended consequences. Great idea, until some parent claims they got food poisoning, from food not kept at safe temps, and sue for millions. That is why most restaurants quit donating to homeless shelters. Whatever the reason as to why kids are not being properly cared for at home (parents on drugs, homeless, etc.) the food would’ve gone in the garbage. Let’s appreciate the extra step that this school is going to spread love to those who are more unfortunate than us. I have seen perfectly good unopened food and milk that is used for after-school programs be thrown away by school districts because of government regulations. Sometimes I wish these freeloaders would quit having kids if they can’t afford them. Next, they won’t be able to buy their kids clothes after spending their taxpayer-funded handout for tattoos, grills (dental bling), fake nails, hair extensions, etc. Don’t be shocked when we’ll be expected to clothe them now that we’re feeding them. I’d rather see the food go to the local homeless vets. What happens when a child is expecting a meal and there isn’t any left? They’ll start crying discrimination and all hell will break loose.

Why do they fix “way more food” than they need? Going to cost way more when someone gets sick from improperly handled/ stored food taken home. Nobody likes to see food wasted, but I can see lots of problems here. This is fine..as long and schools can stop with the forcing kids to dump food they can’t pay for. There is no sense is shaming and wasting just to make a point. This is a good thing but what I don’t like is when a child’s account is low and they take away their lunch and give them cheese on bread. They would rather throw it out then let the kid eat it. Did anyone actually read the 15 Years of Supernatural thank you for the memories shirt? It’s a pilot, they are sending home 8 frozen meals home on Friday’s to 20 students through the summer. This is a fantastic idea to try and see if it works out for these students. Awesome I also love restaurants who donate leftovers at the end of the day to shelters, in this country we throw away so much food that could be donated to the needy.in my little town, we have a wonderful restaurant owner who uses leftovers and opens up a soup kitchen once a week with bread and drinks and dessert, if only more restaurants would do this with all the homeless people and veterans. I am so glad to see this! So many kids go to bed hungry at no fault of their own and sometimes no fault of the parents. I for one am thankful this is happening and pray that the kids actually get to eat it. Now we have to pray that other kids don’t steal it from them.

This is a long time coming. When i worked in an elementary school, I was disappointed to be told they had to throw out the leftovers and couldn’t give it away. Perspective from an elementary teacher, I understand the frustration with parents not choosing to budget for food, but if schools can help the students we teach and make sure they are getting what they need that they aren’t getting at home to be nourished and grow into young people this is a great idea! You can’t change the situation the children come from but you can change how you approach it and serve the kiddos who have zero control of their circumstances. What if the parents are poor or disabled or fighting cancer should the children have to suffer? Who is anyone to judge unless they know the situation. Why is it necessary for folks to be so negative about such a wonderful idea!!?! There WERE poor kids years ago we just didn’t have the tv, videos, and phones to publicize it as much…. and it’s nice that you never went hungry, but some folks just can’t make it on minimum wage – even working 2 jobs…. try to celebrate the good folks are doing!
