Stevens is spot on. By issuing a blanket refusal to respond to any congressional subpoena, Trump is saying Congress has no constitutional authority to oversee the executive branch. He’s telling America that Congress is a subordinate branch of government rather than a co-equal branch. Forget separation of powers. Voters are saying enough is time to take our country back from these destructive Republicans who are NOT representing the American people! Vote Them Out! Vote Blue!Because someone is a mother doesn’t mean they are to be allowed to break laws. There are many very violent offenders who are also mothers, not to mention the mothers who perpetrate crimes against their children. It’s weird how it’s always white people saying that though. If only one black guy went to prison for every 12 white people (and they are the minority), if Stop and Frisk was ended because over 95% of people stopped were white with almost no arrests from it, if over 95% of people arrested take a plea so that they don’t get more time because those prisons need to fill beds then maybe I wouldn’t constantly see white people saying “then don’t commit crime”. No one is suggesting that no one should go to prison if they’re supporting kids and you know that. There’s also crimes of poverty. If there were better jobs around and people made more money there is less property crime etc. It’d be interesting to see what they are in jail for.poverty crime is still debatable, there are some good papers and studies about it. Amazingly, you will find fewer criminals in the poverty class and below than when you travel up the class and status ladder. A lot of it is the reliance the poor are forced into by circumstances, they ask for help more and see a need and respond to it that speaks to the theory of suffering developing empathy. I think these qualities are accessible to all classes but are survival tools for the poor. At the most basic level, the fundamental difference between jail and prison is the length of stay for inmates. Think short-term and long-term. Jails are usually run by local law enforcement and/or local government agencies and are designed to hold inmates awaiting trial or serving a short sentence. That’s funny? Three people in their own home were murdered in a home invasion. It happened in my city.

There’s nothing funny about it. How was it not a fact? Jails are typically run by local law enforcement and people placed in jails typically serve shorter sentences. Seriously, instead of calling her an idiot why not correct her if she is wrong? wtf are you talking about? Something completely unrelated to this post. The Game of Thrones Cat shirt is that these women are too poor to make bail so they sit in jail until their court dates or trial. You’re off the rails. Actually, there are also way too many people in prison, for crimes that don’t warrant incarceration (and frequently don’t for anyone who can pay for the hours of legal services) as well as for crimes they did not commit. Mothers are especially vulnerable to coercion with threats of draconian sentences if they “gamble” on a jury “believing them”, rather than accepting a plea. Some actually serve their sentence in jail. My niece did. Twice. And she’s a mom of six. I’m the one that told the bail bondsmen where to find her the first time. And quite frankly, I’d send her back if I had proof of her latest crime. Being a mom does not absolve you of your crimes. Violent crime or not, you need to pay for what you do.so what about the violent woman who commits acts of domestic violence offences against men and abuse or kill their children? You only bring up one bias side to your opinion. I believe your confusing preferential treatment with equality? I’d be really entertained if you had any response other than a laughing emoji. Your debating skills are extremely poor. You miss the point and dull the point as well. How are mothers especially vulnerable when the legal system shows a woman in most circumstances preferential treatment and leniency?

The Game of Thrones Cat shirt don’t lie the population of the incarcerated woman in the United States is 10.4 %. Men make up the other 89.6 %. Obviously, Men make up the vast majority of the population of incarcerated individuals. I do agree though that our legal system in the United States is gravely broken. It’s the socially acceptable replacement for modern day slavery. You’re flat out lying. White women or women with money already get away with crimes. What you really meant is that you think POC and the poor should be in jail. absolutely true. You will note in my first comment I said we absolutely need prison reform in this country. We also need fair and equitable sentencing which does not happen currently. My point is that a person should not be given a pass simply because they are a mother. Lying? What did I lie about? My comment is in response to this article that is written in a way to suggest that A woman should be given different treatment because she is a mother. I don’t agree with that opinion. I do agree we need to overhaul the legal system and the inherent biases. I also agree for-profit prisons should outlaw. You’re still lying. No one is saying that. White and wealthy women are already getting special treatment, I already proved that to you. The problem is that black and poor women lose everything, including their children and I just want to give them the same treatment rich wealthy ones already get. If they did, 75% of these women wouldn’t be in jail. Which part of this don’t you understand? Where does it say the inmate mothers are awaiting court dates or trials? It doesn’t say that anywhere.
