I keep saying we are missing so many opportunities to share the wisdom of elders. We are wasting such a great opportunity when we keep elders separate, although I realize elders don’t want to be with little one’s full time but they could come and go and share tea. So much can be learned by spending time with the people of that generation. They lived through so much and handled every challenge with such dignity and strength. They are a treasure. Great job to all involved in these efforts.

The family isn’t always the answer. This lady mentioned that she loves talking to people who know her language. That means people who are near her age and have had similar experiences. My mother is 89 and lives alone. My Newfoundland dog pocket shirt and I take turns taking her shopping and doing errands and whatever else she needs. Neither of us has a big enough space to have mother live with us. She has neighbors who drop in, but I think she would enjoy something like this if we could get her to go the first time. Having a nice person that she doesn’t know invite her might be harder to refuse. I’m sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but some of those cozy multi-generational living arrangements around the world are wonderful and some are the scene of elder abuse. I think the elderly need as many contacts in and outside the family as possible to keep them happy, healthy and safe.

A church was the way for hundreds of years that family in generations watched out for each other when you were in the church we were constantly preparing our beautiful churches and having the family together with the family of Christ and I think this group is absolutely lovely. But I so pray that groups begin to come together at the church again so the legacy will continue. It says in God‘s word that the older women are to instruct the younger women and generations are to be together. Not separated out
