When my kids watched I always thought Bert and Ernie were gay, they acted like a Skull Kentucky Wildcats Harley Davidson shirt. It’s certainly not a big deal, Kermit was obviously hot on miss piggy and she went after plenty of guys, Bert and Ernie were pretty tame compared to those two. Y’all need to deal, seriously. Can we please get back to letting young children be young children and having innocent childhoods without bombarding them with such adult topics as sexuality until they reach an age where they are ready to comprehend it.

I started watching it as a small child in the 80s and as long as I can remember, Sesame Street has always been an all-inclusive show. I don’t know that the sexual orientation of any of the characters needs clarification though I feel that they have always taught the importance of love, kindness, Skull Kentucky Wildcats Harley Davidson shirt and respect for all humans in a context that is age appropriate for their viewers. Whether Bert & Ernie are buddies or a couple, they love each other even though they have very different personalities. I fully support the gay community in my household and my children are regularly exposed to couples both gay & straight, male & female.

Sexuality is a tricky subject to discuss with kids anyway, and because the conversation is going to be very different with a 5 yr old then it will be with a 9 or 10 yr old, I just don’t know that a TV show is the best place to learn about it. For my kids, I prefer that it be discussed in our home so that any questions they may have can be addressed in an open and nonjudgmental environment. That being said, I do think it’s extremely important for different types of people, families, and couples to be represented and Sesame Street has always done just that.
