Why don’t you set a standard for tuition prices and make it illegal to raise the tuition if the student isn’t going to gain anything from it? Make it illegal for schools to require freshman students to buy a meal plan and stay on campus. Make it illegal for schools to force students to attend classes that have nothing to do with the major. For instance, why is an art student taking science, English and math if their major is painting? They want to paint. Focus on colour theory and the principles of painting instead. Why is an engineering student forced to take music appreciation and philosophy if they want to design and engineer buildings and machinery? The Sunflower Buckle up buttercup you just flipped my bitch switch shirt is the colleges and lenders aren’t transparent when giving the loans that they will all come after you at the same time which is simply unaffordable. Come one or two at a time to work within the persons budget and income and you would see much more success. Plus get rid of interest rates or drop them to 3% at most. Some new colleges with basic buildings, excellent bandwidth, and good “centrist” professors – students would save a fortune and get a great education. Keep infrastructure simple & focus on high-quality courses. Not only is it getting too expensive … our kids are NOT getting a good education. Not everyone needs a college education. Y’all should be happy. Student loan debt is a racket by the federal govt. They give loans to ppl who can’t afford them without any warning about how much they will owe by the time they are done taking what they perceive as easy money. I don’t understand why people pay top dollar to attend a major university for their first two years to take the same classes as you can take for a fraction of the cost at a community college. If you can afford it and have a burning desire to spend your first two years at a major university, go for it, but to rack up massive debt for those classes really puts people behind the 8 balls at a very young age. The next decade-plus is spent digging out of that financial hole. So many people get the money and then don’t go to school also. Should make it harder to get then give them so much a month. Don’t go to school any more money. Drop anyone from future Loan’s if they don’t go to class, fail a class, and not a citizen! The freshman teachers complain that so many students don’t attend class! No one should be given a second chance!

How about setting caps on raising tuition and fees as well? no cap on loans has meant no cap on tuition, because colleges know kids will borrow whatever they decide to charge. Deal with them both. Tired of seeing these gorgeously designed upgraded campuses continually expanding with beautiful landscaping and aesthetically pleasing everything while kids suffer for decades to pay for it. Student loans are the only debt you can incur pretty much without limits and without an income that will support a payment stream. And in many cases from a borrower below the age of 21. This is highway robbery. Eliminating gen ed courses is not the Sunflower Buckle up buttercup you just flipped my bitch switch shirt! Taking these courses in college takes that level of knowledge, understanding, and critical thinking skills to a higher level than what high school could ever achieve. That said…what colleges need are more certificate programs that will increase the employability of our youth, and maintaining those gen ed courses for those that want to move to the next level. And finally…eliminate useless degrees that don’t lead to jobs.
